Movies in My Life

Movies; What do I say about them? Movies have always been an integral part of my life. From childhood I had been a huge fan of movies. I remember those days when the cable channels started and my dad did not get a connection for us; I was so upset. Had to be satisfied with Doordarshan or DD-1 as people say. There was the Sunday Bollywood show at 4 PM which used to make me do all my homework on time. Then came the Friday Night movies at 9 PM I guess and the first show of Deewar that I saw at night with my mom, as dad had to go Kolkata. We were waiting for him to return at night as I gaped through the amazing dialogues of "...Mere paas Ma hai". It was mesmerizing.

My dad has been a huge fan of Amitabh Bachchan. Sometimes we used to sit and watch movies till late night, but only when it was a Amitabh movie. Other days I was rarely allowed. It was so funny that my homework and all studies used to be over on time everyday no matter when I started.

Movies have always inspired me. The larger than life picture has always made me dream big. The more I watched them, the more I dreamt bigger. It gives a different energy when I feel like on the top of the world. I have seen good in every movie I watched and tried to learn something good from all of them. It was a very long time when I had access to regular Hollywood, no cable connection as I said. So missed a lot of fun then. Had very little knowledge other than about Stallone or Arnold and some times Van Damme. James Bond was a strict no no; you all know the reason.

Then one day school days were over. Came down to Bangalore for my Engineering. Independence. Independence to watch more movies. Regular visits to Theaters. There was one Friday, when Ishq Vishq released and we had our semester exams starting on Monday with M2 (Mathematics), a dreaded subject in VTU. I couldn't find a partner to accompany me to the theater. Neither could I leave the movie. So made a move alone, for the first time, to a theater. N.B. I had scored 90+ in that exam ;-).

Then there was a time when I had started my MBA and had moved to the hostel with full access to internet and unlimited downloads. You might be thinking I am joking but I had downloaded and filled up almost 160 plus DVDs worth movies of just 600-700 mb size each. That crazy I was. People used to keep complaining about the bandwidth when I was busy watching myself download the entire collection of James Bond for 3 months.

But life has changed now. Movies still attract me and pull me towards themselves. I would definitely choose a empty theater to a Monday meeting. But priorities in life teach you a lot. Movies have actually made me more responsible, more creative, more focussed and more happy. Just to let you all know I thought of writing this blog when I was watching Wake Up Sid, for the 5th time. :-)
